Godolphin Charity Fashion Show

March 14th, 2011

Hucklebones is proud to be a sponsor at the 3rd edition of the Godolphin Charity Fashion Extravaganza later this month where selected styles from the Hucklebones range will be part of the fashion extravaganza. The theme for the show at the prestigious girl’s school that was founded in 1726 is loosely based on the entwining of fashion and etiquette with a pinch of pre/post war glamour. The accompanying music will be performed by various Godolphin girls, a notable old Godolphin, and Wiltshire Jazz singer Sandy Ince and is in aid of brilliant causes, Never-give-up and NSPCC Child’s Voice Appeal.

Godolphin is one of the oldest girls’ schools in the country, and its relevant and responsive curriculum has consistently fostered excellence in the realm of women’s education. The school is set in very attractive grounds within easy walking distance of Salisbury’s historic centre.

Signs of Spring

February 10th, 2011

We are thrilled to introduce Emma our guest blogger who has written this beautiful piece on the ‘signs of spring’. Emma has two children, Agnes & Monty and lives in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Her favorite activities include: All the wholesome stuff: knitting, going to the allotment, cooking, photography, hunting for great things for the home and also an unhealthy amount of time spent browsing the internet, reading blogs, researching and shopping.

Signs of Spring

Hooray… after this bitter cold winter the signs of spring are on the way. Bursts of colour are starting to arrive to fill us full of hope for the new season and the year ahead. Buds are on the trees and gorgeous spring flowers are beginning to emerge from the cold, damp ground. Monty & Agnes seem to be just as excited as I am to see bulbs emerging and the sun shining – even the birds seem to be singing louder!  Such an optimistic time after the cold and grey of winter. And it also means a delightful new Hucklebones collection to coo over!

Plans of picnics, camping, walks on the beach, a trip down to Cornwall and enjoying the outdoors are the simple pleasures we can hope to enjoy with the lighter, longer days of the spring and summer months. We also have an allotment which means we have seeds to sow, some fruit trees to plant and lots of digging to do but the reward for our hard work always pays off when we are harvesting sweet juicy raspberries and  potatoes and pulling beans off by the handful. The allotment is a special place for the children… perhaps I’ll fill you all in with that another time.

Signs of Spring

Having been lucky enough to see the Hucklebones Spring/Summer 2011 collection in the middle of winter we have been eagerly awaiting it’s launch and the vibrant Sunshine yellow in the collection is such a happy optimistic colour reminding me so much of the springtime daffodils that we are also anticipating the arrival of! Swaying their heads at the side of the road, dotted around the parks and in neighbourhood front gardens there will soon be flashes of yellow wherever we look. I also can’t wait to see Agnes running around in the spring sunshine in that dashing yellow skirt. It’s gorgeous.

picture books

I really love a sense of the nostalgia, and these images from a vintage children’s book (a fabulous charity shop find) evoke thoughts of a time when childhood was of a different pace, of innocence and I can’t help thinking how beautifully turned out they were too!  Bare legs and ankle socks and a yellow bow in the hair. Our generation of children are spending much more time indoors compared to bygone eras; I feel strongly that we need to get children outside, interacting with the natural environment, playing hide and seek, and understanding how things grow, especially the food we eat. Springtime is a perfect time to get them outside, especially if they are sporting a sunshine yellow skirt!

Bye for now,
