Creative sewing

April 15th, 2013

Creative book_1

The other day the talented Luella from next door popped over to show us her latest creation. After completing a course in machine sewing she proudly showed us her incredible story book entirely made from fabric and stitched together using lots of different sewing techniques. Not only did the book show her mastery of sewing it also amazed us with the story line of ‘Neil’ the mouse who brazenly sets out on his quest by cuddling a cat! Much to his misfortune he is quickly devoured by the cat and Luella’s book cleverly shows his descent into the cats tummy!!

Ellie's book_2

All hope is lost for ‘Neil’ as it seems there can be no return from such fate, however on the final page we were invited to help save ‘Neil’ by pulling him to safety! Miraculously ‘Neil’ is saved – bobble hat and all!

Its incredible the imagination children have and what they can do with it when their creative juices get going. It was great to see Luella’s book and we all had a good chuckle in the office.

Ellie's book 3

Luella’s took her sewing class with ‘Annie 2 Pins’  a creative soft sculptor – for more information you can find a link to her work and website here.

Modern Day Princess @Hucklebones

March 21st, 2013

Modern Princess

Last weekend Agnes was invited to a “Knights & Princesses” Party. I was expecting the ‘dressing up’ box to be wedged open and the usual disney style princess  costumes to be requested. But alas, Agnes decided all by herself that she wanted to be a ‘proper’ princess! Out came her favourite Hucklebones blue & white spot dress (summer 12), finished off with blue coat & hat (winter 10) and sheepskin collar (winter 12).She was extremely proud of her ensemble! When we got to the party she did not care for a moment that she was the only girl without a full length flowing number on andI watched on and was amazed by her poise and self confidence.

What this also highlighted to me is the  timeless beauty that Hucklebones garments create. Mixing up the seasons and creating an individual and stylish look that a little girl is proud to wear, a Modern Day Princess!

I have been using Instagram a lot lately and I love it. It’s a fantastic way to share images. We would really love you to follow @Hucklebones on Instagram and #hucklebones any gorgeous photos you take of your girls out and about in Hucklebones. I look forward to seeing you on there.

Bye for now,

Emma

A Glimpse Of Spring

January 23rd, 2013

The very talented Emma Donnellly from Take A Picture Lady was backstage snapping away at the Hucklebones SS13 photoshoot capturing the exciting behind the scenes action. We are really excited to present her beautiful images and thoughts here on the Hucklebones blog.

Hucklebones SS13

‘Behind-the-scenes’ at a Hucklebones shoot is always a really fun exciting time for the girls; reuniting, meeting new friends, a bit of pampering, eating lots of popcorn, oh and of course, modelling the gorgeous Hucklebones collection! Favourites amongst the girls where the shiny silver & gold pleats, pretty peter pan collars and big bow headbands and clips. Whilst we await the launch of Hucklebones SS13 here are a few glimpses of what is to come…     Emma.

It’s wonderful to see these changes. Here is a little interview of them both and some fabulous images from the Hucklebones archive.

One thing that has been lovely during this busy period is the number of photos we have received from stockists and customers. We always love to see Hucklebones items worn by their lucky owners and thought we would share a few with you here.

Spring day out – Richmond Park

May 23rd, 2012

Richmond Park - Family day out

Last weekend we spent a glorious Spring Sunday exploring Richmond Park in London. We barely scratched the surface but much fun was had tracking down the majestic deer, picnicking and spotting beautiful but very noisy parakeets that have taken the park to be their home. We had homemade quiche and lemon cake and flasks of tea to quench our thirst.

The leaves on the trees are now emerging and the ferns were magically uncurling out of the ground. We are looking forward to returning soon with another delicious picnic, a kite and the desperate hopes of spotting the fawns. They should be born in the next few weeks!

How exciting to explore such a natural environment in central London! (Agnes wearing sunshine flutter sleeve dress from Hucklebones SS11)
